Naturhistorische Fragmente des Tanzes | Fragments for a Natural History of Dance

This book project traces the early history of scientistic colonial thought which, by the nineteenth century, framed dance as a natural and universal human practice that might therefore be used to assess the evolution and development of cultures. At the heart of the project is an inquiry into the civilizational politics that inform how the dancing body has been historically understood.

Initial research for this project was conducted through a Research-Track Postdoc position at the Cluster of Excellence “Temporal Communities“. Further research will be conducted through a short-term fellowship at Herzog August Bibliothek.
